She spoke 12 languages fluently, most of them tribal languages and 1 of those 12 was english. She was one of the most fascinating people I have ever met..... I enjoyed talking with her a great deal... while there were days in the classroom it wasn't easy (she was such a push over with the kids) our kids learned some valuable lessons. We did a unit when she was subbing with me for the week on where she was from.... she came dressed for days in her tradtional dress. She and I talked a lot of her growing up.... she was bounced from tribe to tribe as her parents didn't really want her.... some terrible things happened to her along the way.... I must say I do miss her a great deal..... She moved to another part of the state. I can't wait to see more pictures!

I just found out that 3 of my 4 fair entries were accepted for display! This one received a "Judge's Choice" award (I edited out the orange construction fence in the one I printed, I just can't find where I saved that version right now ):

There were nearly 1,000 entries total. They awarded Best in Show, plus 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Honorable Mention and Judge's Choice in each category.

The others selected for display were:

Kids are home from their first day of school now. Their assigned homework, "get some vitamin D." So they're out in the sun now.

btw...why are there two versions of windows vista? 32 bit and 64 bit? I don't understand what the difference is and even less why they do that...

Older hardware is 32-bit based and requires the 32-bit OS, newer hardware is 64-bit and runs better on the 64-bit version. They released two different versions so that those with older hardware could still use Vista. They did the same with XP, there is XP 64-bit.

Judith was awesome!!!! We taught my class to count to 10 in her Mothertongue.... and to 10 in her fathertongue..... I loved it!!!!! I actually saw her when I was teaching at the Early Childhood Conference back in the spring. I got to talk to her briefly.... I do miss her!

First my apologies to everyone that has entered fair pictures up to now. It appears that I have made the faulty assumption that the fair rules were clear as to what you would be judged on. So....for future reference...here are some rules that you might not see in print, but I guarantee you will be scored on.

1. Most fairs and other exhibits specify 16"x20" as being the maximum dimension. You are expected to present your work in 16x20 format, sized 16x20 finished.

2. For a 16x20 format show image, the actual print must be formatted, sized and printed as 11x14...don't print it as 10x14 or any other size...you will have points deducted for non-standard format.

3. Framing....the prints need to be framed with a simple black metal frame, other frames may be accepted, but points will be deducted.

4. Matting....can you say white? Single or double matting is acceptable...as long as it is white...other colors may or may not even be accepted....points will certainly be deducted.

5. Glazing....glass...jus​t glass...and make sure it is clean on the inside and out...I've seen crazy deductions for fingerprints on the inside of the glass. If the rules specify acrylic glazing...obviously you need to comply...but if not specified...use glass.

6. Assembly...make sure the corners of the frame are fit together snugly...make sure there are no stray marks visible on the mat or the print...and be sure to double check for hairs or other fibers before final assembly. Be sure to use a full dimension backer board to give the rear of the frame a finished look. Use the correct lock in channel clips on the rear to hold the wire hanger. Mount the clips exactly 1/3 of the way down from the top....cut and install the hanger wire so that the top of the arc of the wire comes no closer than 1" from the top of the frame.

7. Identification....on the back...tape a business card to the reverse side using wide, clear packing tape. If necessary, it can then be taped over until the completion of the judging with a piece of paper and masking tape.

There may be some variations from these rules locally, but they seem to be pretty standard among the places I have submitted images and the shows that I have participated in as a judge. Hope this helps for future shows.

Merging of the two large chat threads.

1. At first blush, this seems like a logical approach. As was mentioned, there are many that frequent both. However, upon closer inspection, those that participate on both threads rarely catch up on both. They generally devote serious catching up to one and the other is usually skimmed or they just jump into it cold.

I know I don't contribute in here all that often but I have always felt welcomed when I do. However, I certainly could never keep up with both threads at the speed they have begun to achieve recently but I do try to stay 'in touch' with the happenings in here - even if it is down to a very quick skim of the odd page that I've missed...

yea the taste is not for everyone. the fruit seems to leave my mouth feeling all furry tasting. And yes that's after removing the skin!

I heard that there was something in Kiwifruit that could actually be harmful - they were even talking of banning it in the schools over here. Of course, you'd have to eat about a ton a day for the amount to actually be a problem - all school children were eating at least that much with their school dinner don'tcha know...

I do like Kiwifruit - I've found it different and refreshing whenever I've had it - go figure.

Okay. I took the same shot with the filter removed and the IS turned off. The IQ was minimally improved, but still well below acceptable standards.

I'm starting to think the problem might be in the IS. I did take a shot with the IS turned off and the filter on, and it was even worse, but just slightly so.

Regardless, it's nothing I can fix, so off it goes.

Glad you've been able to determine the culprit - hope you can get it sorted out in time for the trip!
