I love that combination. I was just reading another thread where someone was thinking of selling his 100-400 (he also has the 70-200) and keeping the new 300 F4IS. I don't blame him...I'm glad I didn't sell it when I bought the big one. It's so much more portable and very sharp.

Did you see that I saw that you did not see that I saw your post?:lol::lol:

Basically I am still on the fence with the Bigmos. I love the reach and the OS works well despite the jitters every now and then. The AF seems fast enough as well. I am able to track some BIF, although none of the shots were worth a darn due to bad light and poor composition. the IQ is where I am on the fence. If I don't pixel peep the shots are quite good. But if I have to crop at all the shots lose a lot. I still have yet to get to shoot in decent light with it other than the Panthers' camp where I was VERY pleased with the shots. I have an air show in September and some sports coming up so I should now soon if I will keep it. If not I see a 400 f/5.6 prime in my future unless Canon releases another 100-400 or equivalent or another prime lens.

hmm...I wouldn't like that. I can understand why you might be on the fence. I wonder if canon will release a new 100-400? I think they are listed as discontinued somewhere I recently visited when I was vtmsing.

If not, the 400 F5.6 is very nice. Soooo sharp (like 300 2.8 sharp) but it takes a while to use this lens well...I'm not very good with it but my percentages have gone up from 0 good shots to about 50% good. I prefer the 300 F4IS/tc because of the IS.

and LOL on the "did you see that I didn't see that you didn't see..."

Why have no balloon pics been posted today?

I'm way too tired (read: completely wiped out and heading to bed soon) to process much, but I liked this one and it took almost no processing.

I really like that too. I wish you'd consider an alternate crop though...I think it'd be more dynamic to have less of a foreground.

Ok so after dinner today with my mom and dad and friends, the boys didn't want to come home... and they were pretty well hopped up on a sugar high.... from the DESSERT BAR.... GAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! So dark would be coming soon... and I didn't know what else to do with them.... So we went to Lowe's Home Improvement.... they opened every appliance in the store..... opened every cabinet in the kitchen showroom area.... the looked at every paint chip in the store even brought home a couple of their favorites... looked at every plant, and grill.... and saw on every lawn tractor in the store... inside and OUT.... Now how is THAT for CHEAP entertainment.... OH and we looked at power tools.... they were impressed that mommy knew the names of them all WITHOUT looking at the tags! ;)

Thanks Lisa!
I thought about it, then my brain cramped (literally!). Thanks for the input. I'll take another look at it when I am more clear.:D

I debated the 300 vs 400 and for me I think the reach is needed more, although I love IS/OS now that I have had a chance to use it for some time. I can stick a TC on my 70-200 to get near 300. If the 400 had a better MFD and IS it would be my choice for sure. But i have yet to see bad results from that lens. It is so good. I can pair up my 70-200 on one camera and the 400 (w/ or w/out TC) on the other.

VERY COOL! Or hot as the case may be! ;) I have to agree with Lisa on this one... I scrolled it on my screen to 'crop' out some of the foreground and it made it much more dramatic! Very nice!

true. And you can get some pretty good deals on this lens too if you buy used. You are right, I've never heard of a bad copy.

Ok, I'm weak. I gave in to peer pressure.

Better?

I know. I have seen some go for $935 -$950. :( I should have jumped on it, but I just have this sneaky suspicion that canon has something up its sleeve that I might want instead.

Did you tell them they seemed to have forgotten their balloon?

Nice shot, BTW...
