I've shot nothing but RAW since the first of the year....and 99% of my shots look like crap...so I shot a bunch of JPEGs....and look...usable pictures.

Got to send this to Yoda :-D

RAW is too much work for too few rewards...I think it is back to nothing but JPEGs full time for me.

I don't think it really matters if I shoot in RAW or JPEG... I'll probably end up standing in the corner either way.

I don't know why you say that Mike...you've shared plenty of great shots. One of the reasons I shoot JPEG is because it requires you to get the settings right. I slow down and actually think about what I am doing...much like shooting slides in the old days. You get one shot at getting it right.

I think that I used to enjoy shooting in the old days a lot more. Like you said, we had to think about things a lot more, rather than blast away and then finish it in PP. I had a small dark room in my house where I processed all of my B&W, which is mostly what I shot. There were a lot of things you could do with a negative, but nothing compared to what can be done with digital. For the first two years my only lens was a 50mm 1.4 and everything was manual, including focusing. You could shoot pretty fast, but you had to be very familiar with your equipment, the light conditions, and you had to anticipate. Truth be told, there are so many variables with my digital equipment and software that I'm just hardly ever on top of what I'm doing when shooting.... quite the opposite.

Only 4 variables with a DSLR....focal length, shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Strap on the 50 and go shoot....now you only have 3 variables to worry about.;)

I was playing around with my pano head a couple days ago, and came up with this. It's an absolutely uninteresting photo that was taken from the top floor of the parking garage at the Agua Caliente Casino. The slope in the photo is correct, btw. The shot is (generally) facing east towards Indio, and the Salton Sea beyond.

If you're interested in the full size (i.e. highly compressed), it's here (external link). You might have to click on it to get the full size image. Warning....It's a 1.2mb file.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Chief, I'd like to see a version of this that's about 5 feet long. Nice to see you around these parts.

Insomnia is the only reason I'm here tonight. We've had a couple long, grueling days, and Lois wanted to go to bed early tonight. She fell right asleep, but I was still too wound up for that, so I came out and stitched these photos I took a couple days ago during a lull.

I'd like to try it again, but with some pains. There's no sharpening at all on this, and I think it could be improved. I left the color deliberately golden because it was just before sunset, and that's how it looked.

There's a Denny's, In-n-Out, Jack-in-the-Box, MacDonalds, Del Taco, and a Carl's Jr., all in that picture. Welcome to junk food heaven.

COOL... I didn't realize you could click on the larger version and have it expand like that. In & Out Burgers, train tracks.... very nice!

Chief, when I lived outside of Vegas I had a wind break around my property which consisted of the same little scrub trees lining the RR tracks in your pano. Do you know the name of the trees.... I can't seem to remember. It seems like they were Aethol or something like that.
