Hi:
I am looking for some advice in relation to Telephoto lens.
I mainly spend my time at football games (pitchside). The age old problem is money, which I dont want top spend too much off in the present climate.
Anyways I have a few lenses in mind and and I could do with some insight and a bit of help in choosing!

* Approx prices

1.Sigma 300mm f2.8 EX DG HSM Lens (£1600)

2.Canon EF 300mm f2.8 L IS USM Lens (Wild Card- bit expensive)

3.Canon EF 300mm f4 L IS USM Lens (£950)

4. Canon EF 400mm f5.6 L USM Lens (£850)

I already have a Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM Lens for closer shopts and a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8
for in your face shots. But I know I need a bigger lens, so I would appreciate some feedback.

Canon 20D +1D3, Canon 70-200mm IS L f2.8, Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L II USM, Canon EF 300mm f2.8L IS II USM and a very understanding Wife :-)

That's what I'd say too. Any reason you've not included any zooms? For pitch-side sports photography the zoom is much more versatile.

If you can afford it, the 300/2.8 (either the Sigma or the superior Canon) would give excellent shots when the focal length was right, but when the action comes closer you might feel it to be restrictive.

Hi ALL:
And thanks for the welcome. Joined ages ago, first time poster!!!!
I had a 100-400mm but it just didnt do the job for me. I know I need a f/2.8 lens but as stated previously price is a major factor. Its mainly soccer I do so of the lenses I mentioned bar the obvious 300mm f/2.8 canon what other lens would you recommend from my original post. * Soccer at night uinder floodlight conditions

Can I ask what body you are using?

Seems like I would also go for the 100-400L

In the future I would consider the Canon 100-400L or Sigma 120-300 2.8. Both are fine lenses.
