I ordered black Lowepro Topload Zoom 2, it was $29+s/h+tax at Freestylephoto, so under $40 delivered. I looked at several recommended bags at Circuit City and Best Buy, also I think Ritzcamera had one of those models we spoke about... I decided to give a try to Lowepro mainly because I have good experience with them. I own Mini Trekker AWII for several years (the backpack made several overseas trips, always heavily overloaded, without losing a single stitch), also have older, small TLZ topload; they're build to last, lightweight but very well padded. My concern with Topload Zoom 2 is whether the thickness (5") will be enough for 40D but I think so. The bag should be here today, I'll post picture how it fits.

ok thanks. I look forward to your findings.

For holster, if small size if your top priority, take a look at ThinkTank Holster 20 if you don't have grip. It is the absolute smallest thing that can hold 40D+17-55IS

Crumpler 5MHD is another good choice, you can get your combo + a flash in the main compartment. It is still very small, stylish and low profile.

Hello,

anyone could recommend a well padded shoulder bag/case that would fit 40D with EF-S 17-55 f2.8 mounted?

I had my eye on Lowepro Topload Zoom 1 but not sure if the camera with mounted lens would fit; I used to own ef-s 17-85 and it seemed that it would've been perfect fit, but I upgraded to 17-55 which is quite bulkier... I really want the bag to be able to hold just the camera and this single lens, nothing else needs to fit there (except maybe a CG-580 charger). I want compact bag, to easy carry around and for air travel. I have Canon 2400 series bag which is great but too bulky, and want more compact case.

thanks!
Dave

I promised to post my observations about the bag that I ordered, so here are the pics (with water bottle for size comaprison). I got Lowepro Topload Zoom 2, and using it to hold 40D with 17-55 f/2.8 attached.

The bag is quite larger then I expected, it fits my camera with lots of room around it and would easily fit even longer lens and bigger cameras (the camera wobbles inside slightly although I used adjustable dividers to arrange a better fit, but the fit is reasonable and safe). There is also large front pocket that can hold charger, USB cable and/or CF flash reader, and smaller internal pocket inside the flap that could accommodate CF cards and such... I guess it was a good buy for this camera, although I would've probably prefered a bit tighter fit - to have less "bulk" to carry around. I guess that overall I'll be happy with it.
