Please C&C This Conversion And Picture Of My Son

On the portrait of the boy, I feel that the color balance may be a little off. The facial tones seem to be a little yellow.

The lighting is not very good in that it seems to be at high noon with the light coming from directly above and slightly behind the subject. The exposure is such that the nose and cheekbones are washed out and have very little detail. The same with the whites in his sweater.

The composition, pose and interest level are quite good. However, I would try in the future to avoid things like the fingers of the left hand being right on the frame and the dog's tail being right on the opposite frame.

Thank you for your C&C! This was an impromptu shoot, whereas we were out around town and I saw him sitting there and thought that the picture would look perfect with those leaves. In the future I will definately take into consideration the time of day. I also see what you are saying about his skin tone being a little off, but with this processing I turn the whole image into a sepia tone with some color bleeding through which might be why his skin appears to be yellow. I will try to maintain the sepia tone, but redo his skin and see if I can get a more pleasing color next time.

Oh and about the dog's tail and my son's hand. I cut the dog out of a previous picture I had (I don't have any pictures of my son with the dog) and that was the only real suitable place I could put him. His paws looked very odd after I cut him out of the picture and I needed to position him somewhere and erase them so it looked as though he was behind my son.

I dont think you need the dog in there at all. Thats a great shot, nice and relaxed feel to it. The skin tones are off, the image has a certain style to it that would work in a different image, for e.g., something moody, but for this shot I dont think it works. The only highlights that are blown are on the white of the sleeve but that to me is inconsequential as its not the main focus. As for the lighting, I think its worked out really well. I would like to see an unedited version because I think you might just have over worked it that little bit too much. Aside from that, its well done. Good luck with it.

Here's another version I did..still a little similar, but I think the re-edited version I did turned out better. I just have to get more into the habit of figuring out which post processing goes with certain images. The only reason I put the dog in there was because we bought him and shortly after we learned that we had jumped into something we weren't ready for and had to sell him. We don't have any pictures of him with the dog, so I figured this would be the next best thing. Here's another thread I posted a while ago with a few different versions of the same picture.

I would say the crop you have now is spot on but with the PP thats in the third shot of the other thread! Thats just what i'd go for but you have to decide what works for you.
