Is it normal for the focusing ring to be loose / wobbley on the EF-S 18-55mm lens?

I have the XSi with the EF-s 18-55mm IS lens. My focusing ring is sort of wobbley. I compared the EF-S 18-55mm non IS (XTi) lens at the store, since they had no XSi's on display and the focusing ring also felt wobbley.

I hope this is normal and not just a coincidence that mine and the one at the store are defective.

Don't have mine in front of me right now (non IS), but if I remember correctly it does have some play in it - not a lot but more than my other lenses.

Do you notice any problems with your pictures, out-of-focus, etc.? I wouldn't worry about it too much if your pictures are turning out fine.

I'd say it's absolutely normal. It's a very cheap lens! Don't worry unless it affects your pictures.
