Ok, I just went and shot some pics of my boy at the local playground. Came home to download the pictures, plug in the USB cable and nothing...

I thought it might be a loose cable, checked everything, turn camera off, unplugged the cable, plug back in, etc. Again nothing.

Went to the other computer, plugged in the USB cable...nothing again.

Computers are not recognizing the camera. The USB connection should pop up right away.

I'm sure the camera is out of warranty but anything else I should check before I call Canon???

Thanks,
Scott

Don't know what the problem is but you're gonna get a thousand recommendations to just buy a $10 card reader and forget about plugging your camera into the computer. It's easier, quicker and less problematic.

90% chance (CDS, yes, this is a made up number, keep at your dayjob instead of needlessly insulting people) that this problem is due to the connection type being changed on your camera. Should have a few choices in connection (it's one of the middle menus), just try until one works. The other possible thing is that you have an image in review, which also stops connections from working, so just tap the shutter halfway and plug in.

If neither or these work, then time to check up with canon.

You really should be using a card reader anyway, they are cheap and even monitors and printers have them now.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Gotta love PCs! :p

What type of computer and what program do you have set to open when a camera is connected?

LOL...after doing some searching on her that's what you'll be doing after I tell you.

WIN XP and I have been plugging in the camera and downloading via USB cable with the EOS Utility (after searching, census says that this is a big no, no - get card reader).

I do have a card reader on the printer. I will try that...:).

Thanks!

P.S. Just tried the camera again and of course it's working now. Will post some shots in the people section later on.
