ok I just watched the little intro clip and all I have to say is: LOL. That looks awkard as hell, let alone completely absurd.

you must have watched that crazy carry on thing they have, go into the site and look at the actual monopods as well as tripods...they are high quality stuff for very reasonable prices...

you have a quick release plate on the bottom of your camera, and/or on the tripod ring on your 100-400.

Then on your monopod and tripod, you have a head that will take a quick release plate. Eg for the monopod, a 234RC tilt head, and for a tripod, a 486RC2 or 488RC2. Then you can just click the camera onto the head and it'll stay put. to release it just flip a lever and take it off.

A lot quicker than screwing it on/off all the time

If you want light weight try the Bogen Digi 676B. It's extremely light for an aluminum monopod and very sturdy.

I use it with 1D MK II 70-200, 300 f4 and even the 300 f2.8.

I may upgrade to a beefier one for the 300 f2.8 but for the other lenses, this one is more than enough.

It's really cheap too.

I use a Giottos with my 40d and 70-200 L, fantastic monopod, great quality.

that's what i used. the great things about that monopod are it's cheap ($30) and light so it'll probably be with you when you need it.

i now use ........

it costs more but is as light, shorter and is stiffer. great monopod.

I went with a 680B combined with a 3229 swivel head, and it's worked quite well so far, though I haven't used it on any "really big" glass. My other tripods are set up for RC2 plates, so it made sense to keep with one system.

The 680 is probably bigger than I currently need, but I've also used it as a hiking staff, and it's held solid, with no slipping or movement when I put some weight on it.

The 680/681 monopods from Manfrotto are beasts.

My 681 is now probably overkill for my stuff, but it is very solid and sturdy. I can put my whole weight on it without it bending or moving.

Manfrotto 679B with a Manfrotto 488RC4 head here. Seems solid and has decent load capacity. and it is fairly cheap. Feisol was another choice since they are well received overall for support.

I use the Manfrotto 3245 Monopod w/3229 Tilt Head QR. Once you get used to this monopod's "auto" feature, it's rather hard to get used to other models. I then use the Gitzo GM-3550 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Monopod with the same head when using outdoors as in hiking, etc. with a steel spike at the tip -- as my hiking stick, monopod, AND as self defensive weapon just in case... :)

It's the grip-action release that allows the upper section to be adjusted 19" up or down. Just squeeze the grip to go up or down and let it go to lock. It's fantastic for those, like me, who need to instantly adjust the height of the monopod all the time while shooting. Once you get used to this mechanism, it's hard to use the regular kinds. If I hadn't used it as a hiking stick -- which it's NOT designed to -- then I probably didn't have to get an exact replacement.
