Old flash with new body

Hi all, just brought an old flash from my eos 1000, the flash is a 200E, will this work on my XTI?

if not, whys that?

That's a old TLL flash, will not work on the XTi. You need a ETTL flash like the EX series.

To add to Lon's statement...

For camera-controlled flash exposure automation, you need an 'ETTL' compatible flash -- which a TTL-compatible flash is not

Or for flash automation controlled by the flash, you can you a flash with an 'Auto' mode at a built in photosensor in the flash.

Or for flash with manual exposure control only, you can us a flash with a Manual mode only.

In using any 'older' flash unit, you will need to use flash units which have a synch voltage below 6v (many older flashes have synch voltage of hundreds of volts!) for Canon cameras preceding the 20D/350D. Later Canon bodies are fine with 250v synch voltage flash units.
