Music is big for me I play keyboards, guitar, Irish pennywhistle and native american flute. I also love to go camping in the motorhome when we can afford the gas.

As opposed to "Artistic Scuba Diving?"

For the uninitiated, explain "Technical" in this case? Thanks! :)

Opposed to Recreational Diving (external link)

Technical diving (external link) requires greater training, Discipline and an increased level of gear.

Where someone who does recreational diving will dive no deeper than 130 feet in open water area such as diving the wonderful reefs and such :D

We do technical diving where we dive special gear, 4-6 tanks. We will do full penetration of ship wrecks, We will dive miles under ice or in caves and sometimes require hours of decompression.

A recreational diver at any time can decide its time to go and go straight up to the surface, while a Technical diver doing a technical dive is on a time table regardless, If a gear failure happens you deal with it you go to back ups if you get bored or tired you have no choice but to do the reverse swim and go through all the same obstacle's regardless.

There is a lot of a difference but hard to explain.

I figured it came down to technique, gear and difficulty. Sounds like something that is very rewarding when done well and extremely dangerous if not done well.

Thanks for the extra info.

(I was just kinda poking fun with the "Artisitc Vs Technical...") ;)

I'm a bike mechanic/wheelbuilder on the side and I got a 2-y-o son and another boy on the way in January. That's about all the room I have for hobbies :)

Home Theater. I even run a Home Theater forum (www.hometheaterlounge.com (external link)). Of course it seems like 90% of our discussions are off topic, but I notice there are a lot of off-topic discussions here as well.

bannedPermanently

i was all about playing & recording music, it was more a lifestyle than a hobby i suppose. My buddy and i recorded like 5 full length albums of various genres in 3 years or so. Then i moved to Ukraine and he moved to Tanzania (both of us for NGO work) almost a year and a half ago. When I moved I brought as much recording gear as possible, and man i haven't hardly touched it in a year, sad really. So maybe its not a hobby anymore and I just have a bunch of music gear stashed on two continents for no reason. Maybe i should sell that stuff and by some more photo gear...hmm...

On another note yesterday i purchased 3 old Soviet film cameras, 2 of them may or may not even work. They are built like T-34s and look awesome. I really want to throw a roll of film in the one i know works and see what happens, but it will cost more for the film (if i buy B&W) than any one of the cameras cost! ironic... but it would be a fun hobby to make a weekly trip to the local "radio market" to scout for old Soviet film cameras i suppose... hmm...
