i think im not explaining my point properly. i did shoot the first one as an HDR composite, but didnt go overboard with post. the other two are multi strobe setups that I only recently attempted. i guess what i meant by "real lighting" is not going overboard with the fake-ish lighting normally associated with HDRs.

the red cars in the link you posted are way better. and im positive the intentions on those pictures are totally different than mine's. i approached in a more artistic way rather than purely technical.

I think you might have your descriptions reversed? I'd say that artistic is using the light that is there, sort of like the early painters did. Or duplicating that light in a studio.
"Technical" would be adding light/efx that weren't there in processing.

Either way, I'm not saying that you shouldn't keep trying. Just that I don't think it's working yet, & I find it much easier to use what nature gave us to work with.
