Rebel Flash Problem?

My new Rebel's flash doesn't close "positively", that is once closed it can be pushed down slightly (1/32 of an inch(?)).

Is this common to Rebels or do I need to take it in for repairs?

Do you mean the Canon Rebel film camera, or do you mean the Canon Digital Rebel?

Most of these snap down correctly the first time.

I don't know. Has that camera been bumped on top?

Every Drebel/300D I have seen you can push the popup flash down a small amount when it is in its closed position similar to how you describe - so its either a very common problem or (more likely) just 'normal' :)
