Flash kills the mood.
Apart from that, nice expressions in the first few.

For direct flash photos, these aren't too bad. Well...they are way better than the stuff I was doing two years ago. The focus seems to be good although the images could use a little sharpening (due to resizing/compression issues). Ideally, it would be best to try to shoot with available light, but this may not have been achievable with a D70 and 70-210.
As far as composition goes, the images are all from basically the same angle and the subject is near the center of the frame in most of the images. Also, I would try to avoid cropping (or framing) through the subjects hands as this tends to lead the eye out of the frame.
Lastly, try to look for and anticipate moments where the subject's eyes are wide open. The eyes are often the focal point of the image and can bring a lot of emotion and power to a photograph.

Do you have any recent stuff to show us; played with that new XSi much yet?
edit:nm, I see your other posts

I agree with both Rene and Drew ... somewhere in Performing Arts I have a thread of my first images and I assure you that yours are 100 times better, but flash really does kill the feel as I'm sure you know by now. :-) You can see a thread of my earliest attempts here.
