First is Cristin, she's relatively new to the model game (but still has more experience than I do).

I was hanging out at a local studio and she was sitting for a Rock theme shoot. The photographer graciously allowed me to take a couple of shots (and let me play with his cool big-boy toys.... I really, really, really need to get me a studio so I have room for all the toys!)

Cristin and I are going to be shooting together on Thursday if our schedules mesh.

This was shot with a ring light front left, a small blue-gelled softbox right rear, a purple-gelled flash left rear and a red-gelled flash directly behind.

This next one is Phoebe, a wonderful (and gorgeous) girl who works as a motorcycle mechanic! She is a friend of another model I shot and wanted some good photos for herself.

This was all natural light.

I love #1 but it looks like you over did the skin smoothing in #2.

I'm not sure I agree, but that is the beauty of photography--we all know what we like, and conversely what we don't like. I like both shots. Thanks for sharing

The lighting is great on the first. I really like the whole effect. The second, I agree that she is far too smooth for my taste.

Thanks for the comments folks! I am so new to model photography that I don't know what I don't know.... but I am having fun finding out.

As for the skin smoothing, I may have gone overboard. Her skin was a little rough and it was such a shame for a pretty lady like that. Touchups are another area where I am learning by trial and error.

1 is pretty awesome.. but yea, be careful with the smoothing.. you don't want the face to look like plastic. :)

I think they are great. Keep up the good work.

I just got my first pair of glasses that I didn't think I needed. I apologize to anybody in the past year that I said their pictures were out of focus lol.

I agree about the skinsmothing in #2. In #1 i would lower the intensity of the haitlight just a bit, other then that nice shots.

My own personal guideline is this:

If I have her looking like a Penthouse Pet but the scene doesn't belong in the magazine, drop the opacity of the smoothing layer by anywhere from 15-60%.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)
