Finally I have a IR filter!
I took some photos today, and when I try to use photoshop element or Photoshop 5.LE
I find an area that lets me change only part of the red/blue channels.

But not they way it is described. Is the technique a little bit different because Im using a Imac computer, or do I not have the right software. (I hope not).

Thankyou
Pamela

It's not specified what you are trying to do with the Infrared photos in PhotoShop. Try the channel mixer. Image> Adjust> Channel Mixer. RGB sliders will be available to you. There is also a Constant slider; use it sparingly. If you are converting to black and white you should still use the Channel Mixer, but check mark the Monochrome box and then use the sliders to get a black and white image to your liking.

Thankyou for the reply
The problem I have is I can t find anything named channel mixer. When I go to Image>Adjust>
the next choices are equalize, gradient map, invert, posterize, Threshold.
What I tried was enhance>adjust brightness/contrast>levels> then a level box shows channels RGB, red, blue, green. I dont see a choice for boost.

I suspect that you only tried looking for the Channel Mixer in Elements, which does not include it. Channel Mixer was new to PhotoShop 5, so it should be included in 5 LE. If there is any question, the Constant slider lightens or darkens all the channels across the board. I am using a "Bondi Blue" iMac, running OS 9.1 with PhotoShop 5.5.

Richard Lynch has a book, "The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 2", that comes with a CD to enhance Elements 1 & 2. Some of the features that it adds are Channels and Curves. It's not as eloquent as full Photoshop, but at $30 it is a cost effective option that might help you.

Thankyou Jeff
I checked with Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE
I found through Image>adjust>curves that I can change red, green, blue channels. Is this maybe the same are that others are speaking about?

It seems that PhotoShop 5 LE is really "Lite Edition", not unlike Elements 1,2 and 3; which explains why it is so readily bundled with camera software. I would try to find Photoshop 6 or 7 for mac in the software section of E-bay. Either should be compatible with OS 9.2 and both should have the channel mixer, but do check first. I'm suggesting E-bay because there are a lot of clearing houses online there for "older" software for older operating systems like OS 9.2 for a reasonable price.

Pamela,
If you're going to all this trouble, you might consider switching your operating system to OSX. I am running 10.2.8 and love it. It is so much more stable than 9. I resisted it, but would not go back now. I realize this not the answere you're looking for....

Thankyou ekrunaj / Jeff
I wasnt sure if OSX would cause any problems when changing over, I had heard about serious problems others had when upgrading . I know my new Lacie hard drive and DVD burner are compatible with OSX. Was the upgrade a smooth change or did you have any problems?
I will have to check both of your ideas.

Thankyou
Pamela

Pamela,
I've heard that some people had problems with 10.0 and 10.1. I have had no problems, I started with 10.2.6 and upgraded to 10.2.8 shortly after. I gave our old G3 333mghz Imac (OS9) to our neighbors' daughter, I was a little concerned about what might be left on the hardrive, so I wiped the harddrive and installed an early version of OSX. When we had the Imac it crashed or froze at least every other day. The neighbors report that it is very stable now.

I haven't upgraded to 10.3, but plan to upgrade to 10.4 when it's released. I don't want to upgrade all the time, but I don't want to get left behind either. My current plan is to upgrade to everyother new version. However, I do plan to keep on top of all Adobe Photoshop upgrades. If that involves upgrading my OS, so be it.

Jeff.
