Anyone know where I can get one of these in 72mm or 77mm sizes? any recommendations in general?

The only ones I've found so far are on ebay and they don't come in sizes large enough for any of my lenses.

Thanks PacAce - now I know the proper manufacturer names I'll hopefully be able to find somewhere they're sold in the UK.

Can anyone who has used one of these recommend a specific style or brand? (ideally looking for something that keeps the non point-source elements in the picture as clear & sharp as possible)

I think HOYA makes them too. Probably not a big selection like the Tiffen ones tho.

I bought one of the B+W ones, so I know they make them, and they make them in the 4, 6, and 8 point varieties.

Thanks. What do you think of yours? does it have a noticeable soft-focus effect on the parts of the image that aren't touched by the streaks of light?

I don't have much experience with this, but I think it's worth mentioning. You can also achieve a starburst effect by stopping down the aperture to something like f/22 or f/32.

f/22 and up, SLOW shutterspeeds, at least one bright lightsource (for your starbust), oh yes and a tripod because of the SLOW shutter speeds (unless of course you are rock solid).
