It's not a very important question, I know... but I see people on here selling their used 2 GB cf cards all the time. My question is why? So far, I have one 2GB Ultra II card, one 2GB Extreme III card, and one 4GB Ultra II card. From another member here, I'll be getting two 8GB Extreme III cards. I don't think I'll really be needing the two 2GB cards now... but shouldn't I keep them just in case? If anything, I can use them as mini portable storage.

Keep them. I've even resorted to digging out a 128Mb in the bottom of my bag before when I forgot my storage device.

I keep every storage device I can get my hands on. And here is why, I was on a fashion shoot with my GF in SF and shot an entire brick of chromes. I send the MUA and the models home, 30 minutes later the biggest freakin earthquake in recent US history shook the crap out of the Bay Area. Me with crap loads of gear and NO film...

Anke - Ha... what can you fit on a 128MB? I suppose it's better than not having any storage at all. I suppose I can place each of my 2 GB cards in each of my bags just in case.

LBaldwin - Wow... that's an interesting story and you must still regret it to this day. I accidently bought an sd card recently on the forum, jumping on it thinking it was a cf. Now, I don't have an sd device.

I just have 5 4GB's so...no, I wouldn't keep mine. That's a lot for me though and would just never use a 2GB, that's why I sold them.

Are used 2 GB cards even worth the hassle of selling these days? I start my day with 8GB cards in the main camera but have quite a few pairs of 2 GB and a pair of 4 GB to fall back on. Plus 1 and 2 GB is ideal for in the 10D with its small-ish RAWs and less usage throughout the day.

ed rader - One in the car. Not a bad idea.

dick tay - I was just thinking... perhaps at less important shoots or smaller events where I don't anticipate a lot of pictures, 2 GB makes sense... otherwise, waiting for an 8 GB to fill up and then transfer to the pc would take forever.

aravena - I don't have that many 4GB. Come to think of it, I got the 8GB to cover those longer shoots. I think I could use a 4GB or even 2GB for when I'm just carrying my camera around town.

cdifoto - Yeah... the 40D RAW files can fill up the smaller cards pretty quickly. I shoot in RAW + JPEG so I can quickly share the JPEGs to whoever is interested... I later process the RAW.

Thanks for everyone's help. I think I'm going to keep the cards, just in case.

I would keep them. Youll never get back what you paid for them, so why not just keep them for extra storage as back up cards?

And I thought I was a bit nutty for hanging on to a couple of 512 MB cards.

i say keep them. Its still a memory card, and can be used as fast storage or back up. I mean from computer to card, Or say data transfers.
From a out in field stand point, i think it would be better to change to a 2gig to get more shots, then dumb down the quality to save space when even the 8 gigs fill up.

10 RAW files. Kind of like in the old days with a 12 exposure roll of film.

Dont have any CF cards but have SD cards. I still have a 32mb card, and i have used it in my 450D/Xsi. Granted I can only take like a couple of pics with it, but I mostly use it when i am out at a camera shop testing lenses, it allows me to take a couple test shots and review them to decide if thats a lens I would like. Even those smaller capacity cards that no one ever really thinks of using anymore still have uses. If you have a card reader you can easily use the card like you would a floppy disk.
