After buying a Bogen 680B Monopod and a 486 Compact Ball Head which arrived from USA this afternoon I discovered the screws are too big for my 400D and the collar of my 200mm lens  What do I do? is there a plate of some sort which will fit the large screw with a smaller screw on top, help, help!

Check the screw on the head. Pretty sure the Manfrotto ones I have had a threaded adapter on them that you can screw off revealing the "real" 1/4" screw inside. If that makes sense.

are you sure you're not trying to put the camera on the head mount? your camera only attaches to the quick release plate (light gray metal piece), and i'm fairly confident that the 486's is the standard manfrotto QR plate. your setup should look like this from the very bottom:

monopod shaft > ballhead > quick release plate > camera/lens collar

Your 486 should have come with a QR plate. Post a picture.

Oh, doesn't have a QR plate then. Have a look at that thread. The outside part will push down to reveal a smaller thread that will screw in to the camera.

Exactly right - I was 'confused' when I first got mine, too.
