Sounds like the new 5D with a zero added; new 5D is just a FF of this body, true?

Oh yeah- I agree with that. They haven't made an upgrade to my 17-40 that I got last buying splurge, rather than a 40D.

(now that I've said that, they probably will, with 4-stop IS)

I highly doubt that. the 17-40 iteration isn't that old to need an update. Also IS becomes less important at wide angles and considering that lens doesn't reach the telephoto end, it will probably never get IS. The 24-70 would be the most likely next lens to get updated with IS, if it ever does.

Um...the 50D is nice and all, but what I want to know is WHEN is the 60D coming out???

Lol. Just kidding.

Nice upgrade. Me likey.

But I'm holding off buying until the 5D FF upgrade is announced. I really want to go full frame, and depending on how much it is, I'll get that instead.

Does anyone know how much it'll cost? Just got my 40D few weeks ago!

Can't see them doing that... they didn't put IS in the 16-35L MkII when that was updated. And I can't see people paying 600 bucks more for a 17-40L with IS... (which usually is the price IS comes at with L lenses...)

Well, I was after a 40D for Christmas. I'll probably still go for a 40D and hope the prices comes down some. (UK amazon price = £784.41 with 17-85kit) if this came down
£50-100 that would be sweet! My guess is the 50D will sell for around £1000 body only here in the UK :(

well I think this camera is a joke: £1,200 for a 40D with slightly higher resolution - (which is the LAST feature anyone wanted)

you can pick up a 40D in Mint condition for £500 second hand - why would any consumer (not pro's - who would not buy this body anyway) want 15MP file sizes? Crazy. This camera will be at £800 in no time.

I just hope that the 5D MK2 is not another FF version of this tatt.

Also, I hope that this doesn't mean Canon plan to push out a £2,000 price tag on the 5D MK2?! I was hoping more for around £1,500.

Hmmm, guess I'll be sticking with the 40D for a little while longer ;)

I think it will be a great upgrade for those with old XX series cameras (10D, 20D). Big enough jump. Keep the old one as backup. I would wait 6 months first

lol XX series??? I plan to go from a 350D to the 5DmkII.... provided 1) I can afford it and b) it ever gets released

I wouldn't trust the pre-order price. The preorder D700 on warehouseexpress was about £200 more than the actual retail price in the end.

I was thinking of getting a used 5D but 50D may tempt me away from full frame. We will see!

well if you want a mint condition 5D - I have one for sale!

I agree about WHE, they always milk prices too much andd always overprice on pre-orders. Happened to me 2 years back on the 40D (which I still love), I bought it one day and then the price dropped £75 over night. But to their credit they refunded me without a fight!

The 8Gb card and bag will be adding on a bit to that kit mind you... (card on it's own is ~ £60)

I'm pretty stoked about the 50D. Lower noise and higher ISO is gonna be great for 100-400 at 5.6.

Too bad that they didn't spring for a lower ISO settings too, at least a 50...

Granted. Mind due at the price that manufacturers churn these cards out I wouldn't expect that to have cost any more than £15 cost and a tenner for the bag, at cost. I'm still opened mouthed at the cheek of Canon for pricing this so high, with or without mark ups from dealers. I definitely will not be chopping in my 40D's for this!

@ PMK - As for lower noise: I don't have a problem with the 40D's (or 5D's) noise up to 800 iso. If your having to shoot any further above this regularly enough for this 'feature' to be a serious buying chip over the 40D- then why not invest in some faster glass! :)
