I doubt they'd bother releasing a camera that had truly crap noise handling - being as its a major selling point. Same for the AF - you'd learn once from all the 1d3 hassle they had.
The big deal here is, they've released very quickly a new digic processor that appears to be capable of insane image processing - very low noise, very high af performance and massive throughput and, er, put it in a mid level camera....
What does this mean for the 1d series then... especially given that the sensor is of better design (gapless) in this camera, and it uses a superior processor?!
The 5d is now looking so old it might as well come with rolls of film, I can't understand the massive delays in that - like someone said, it's almost like this was meant to be a new 5d - it's interesting also that this "doesn't superceed" the 40d - so canon intend on making this what, a new level in the market? It's a curious decision to make...
Good points! If I recall Canon doesn't immediately discontinue xxD models, they usually do it later; probably to maximize ongoing inventory sales by not having to refer to it as a discontinued model. Interesting to see when production stops.
