Jessop new oxford street in London, London camera exchange - bristol had two earlier in the week, other branches should have stock in. I bought mine for £949, so haggle them down (body only). RGB tech shoudl have some in, as should bristol cameras. Warehouse express should also have stock, but they are still listing £1200 RRP

You should be able to find one by next weekend

Thanks for the shop listings mate. up here in glasgow its not so easy to walk into a shop and get one for the price you paid unfortunetly. emailed RGB tech and they said their list for folk wanting one is massive so it'd be a slim chance of getting one anytime soon. Jessops is just a joke and i refuse to pay that for body only. ( think they are doin them for well over £1100 - body only )
Warehouse express and bristol are overly priced too i think.

Play.com have them at £980 and they say they will have stock in by 3rd. see the reason i want mine in hand by the 3rd is i have a wedding seminar and i really wanted to try it out here. plus the fact ive sold one of my 30Ds to a fella on here and i like to have 2 bodies on me. what a dilema :D

It wouldn't surprise me if all the e-tailers start shipping these next week.

Interesting. Does this camera have an official "street date," or can e-tailors start shipping as soon as they receive their stock?

As soon as they receive there stock. Especially since most other major countries have there 50D's already.'

Estimated "official" date is sometime within the first week of October. So no we never got an official exact date. But several places have responded to inquiries stating Oct. 2nd to Oct. 6th, Amazon included, saying October 2nd they expect to ship there Pre-orders. So its pretty safe to say within the first week of october.

Hmm...I went ahead and put an order in with Berger-Bros. If they really have it in stock, I could have my new camera by Tuesday! I'm eager to get my hands on this thing. :)

I'm new to the forums and new to the digital realm, but not new to photography. I've been shooting with film with an old Contax for nearly 2 decades. Recently I caved into digital and after much research and deliberation, I picked up a new Canon 50D with some accessories! This is what I got today.

- Canon 50D body
- EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens
- EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens
- EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens
- SPEEDLITE 580EX II flash
- BG-E2N battery grip
- 3 Canon lens filters (complimentary from Canon)
- Canon 200-DG digital gear bag (complimentary from Canon)
- SanDisk Extreme IV CF 8GB (complimentary from camera shop)

I'm hoping to post comments about the camera and lenses as I utilize and get familiarized with the new equipment. :)

Wow that's a sweet plunge into the digital waters! Personally I would swap the 24-105 to a 24-70 2.8.

The sales manager of the camera shop I'm a regular at said that I made his day! ;)

I seriously thought about buying the 24-70mm f/2.8L over the 24-105mm f/4L, but I bought the latter because I thought it would be a bit more practical than the 24-70 as a 'walk around' lens due to the slightly longer focal range. Moreover, the 24-105 has gotten some really good reviews and friends who use the 24-105 recommended it highly. :)

I'd have said 17-55 IS over 24-105 but 24-105 does offer a lot more at the tele end if that's your thing. Nice setup! Now find a Korean duck and post some samples :) (longstanding tradition here of duck shots as first post with new gear).

Yeah I can definitely believe that! At least you got a complimentary CF card! :)

Yeah, it also have IS which is nice, of course. f/4 is way too dark for me though, with or without IS!

I actually got a really good deal. The Canon rep was at the shop when I went to buy my gear. Canon rep gave me a 10% rebate on the body, lenses, flash and battery grip. On top of that, the store manager gave me a 10% discount after the Canon rebate and threw in the CF card!

After using the 24-104 f/4L, if I find that it isn't fast enough, I'll trade it in for the 24-70 f/2.8L. L lenses retain their value really well here in Korea. :)
