I'm dumping the 1D series Canon, I've been totally blown away by the performance of my 5D over the 1DMKIII and as of today the 50D seems the new king.

I'm going to look at one at the first available opportunity ~~ :)

According to the Canon release, the 40d will be offered concurrently with the 50d - probably until stock runs out. Or is it a move by Canon to prop up the market for those who "invested" in the 40d mearly a year ago.

"Canon has built upon the success of the popular EOS 40D model - which will remain in Canon's line - with the EOS 50D Digital SLR camera."

I've been VERY happy with my 40D, what was "limp noodle" about it?

Think they said the same thing about the 20D when the 30D came out. Or was it some other model?

Not a chance.

I believe folks thought the 30D wasn't much of an improvement to the 20D. But from my reading, the 40D has a MUCH better AF system than the 30D (important for me coming from Pentax, the snail of the AF world  )

Well the 50D should impress then. :) All the XXD series's AF was quite 'nippy' in their day respectively.

I also moved to Canon after owning two different Pentax DSLR's (K100D, K10D), and I know exactly what you mean .
