Hey gang. I have an assortment of camera bodies and in the past week have had the opportunity to use most of them for one assignment or another.
What are you thoughts on shutter clicks? Do you have a preference from one to another?

Here are my thoughts on shutter click noises:

20D- the shutter sounds pretty solid on this-- has the right click and sounds good -- this is one of my fav choices in the noise the shutter makes.

30D- similar to the 20D but a little less noise in my opinion-- not quite as solid.

40D - well in all honesty this sounds the weakest---- sounds a bit plasticy to me--- not really a word but sounds a bit weak and not solid like the 20D.

5D - The shutter sounds a bit slow and ker plunkish--- a softer shutter sound than the 20D but not plasticy like the 40D. Sound and smooth.....not really a manly shutter sound though.

1D MK II -- Definitely a manly sound. Much different than the XXD series. Solid and quick.

1D MK III ---Again a manly sound here-- a little quieter than the MK II but definitely solid.

So what is your fav?

I protest...life membership for subjective evaluations is inappropriate. Life membership should be granted only if OP posts sound measurement values in decibels, as measured by a sound meter!

haha. I actually don't like my 20D's mirror noise (this is what makes the noise you actually hear, unless you're using mirror lockup), as I think it's a little too sharp of a sound. I've always been more partial to the 10D mirror slap, myself...

Having endured a very noisy (first) SLR all too many decades ago, I found the 20D to be painfully too similar! The 40D needs to be motorized in mirror travel in both directions, to keep up with the 6.5 fps rate, so that affects its sound. I love its relative quietness (compared to the 20D), but I also find the Nikons to be nicer in their sound!

They sure do sound different! I think there are times that I would prefer the quieter "stealthy" sound of a Nikon, but most of the time I love the loud Canon slap.

I noticed the XTi sounded better than the XT. That was one of the reasons why I chose my XTi over the XT HAH!

I can't wait to get a 30/40D :)

Am I missing something? None of my images make any noise at all.;)
