I've surprised myself a few times by having the camera do a sharp focus on an offset foreground object - say having a person stand next to a tree but positioned behind the back plane of the tree. The camera would focus fine on the subject at focus lock, but then focus on foreground in the final picture. I suspect the "IS" is acting on me between focus lock and actual shot, but I dont wish to toggle IS just because I have a foreground object.

Is this the front focus problem?

On a different note, I realized the camera flash fires strobe for AF assist in a dark environment, but I can detect some burning smell if I bring my nose within an inch of the flash assembly. In one instance the camera automatically toggled to OFF after a few seconds of strobe flash.

Comments, folks?
