I have a canon 5d and some older Minolta lenses can I make these lenses work with my 5d?

not easily...
The distance from the film plane (or digital sensor) in the Canon EOS series is longer, 44mm if I remember correctly, than the Minolta MC or MD mounts. This means that you can't maintain infinity focus without either an adapter with glass, which would degrade image quality and act as a weak teleconverter, or sand down the back mount of the Minolta lens, which is a tricky process that can only be done with certain lenses (such as the Minolta 50mm f/1.2, see https://photography-on-the.net …hlight=minolta+​50+f%2F1.2 )
