I was wondering if I could mount my Sigma 530 on camera and then attach my skyport trigger to the camera via a pc/hotshoe setup of some sort. I'd have two Viv 285 HVs off camera with receivers and thus a three light setup.

My reasoning is that I have had troubles firing the Sigma consistently with the Skyports but never when on camera. For shooting HS sports, this would allow a nice strobist setup off camera with the addition of some "mobile" lighting on camera. If it can be done, I think the results would be fantastic (although I'd need to invest in Eveready or some Quantums..)

My friend mounted a ST-E2 on the hotshoe and an ebay-trigger in the PC hole, and he triggered 2 580EXIIs (using IR) and 3 Vivitar 285HVs. I'm sure you'd be fine, just make sure the sigma is on manual, if not it's going to be overexposed, if you get what I mean.

Scott,

The Skyport comes packed with a short cord that will allow you to connect the sync port on the Skyport transmitter to a PC port on the camera.

Just connect as above and attach a piece of velcro on the Skyport transmitter and stick it on the Super Sigma flash somewhere.

The Skyport transmitter is so light it should not take much to secure it.

You should not need to purchase anything other than some velcro.

Enjoy! Lon

Thanks Lon. Embarassed to say that I didn't think the trigger had a port:o:o

I've use a cactus trigger in the same way. Transmitter connected to camera via PC port and triggers remote flash. Separate flash sits on the hotshoe. I can even keep the on camera flash in E-TTL.

this is all great news!!! the main issue being that the Sigma does not fire consistently when connected to the receivers but the Vivs fire just fine. The Sigma also has to be in optical mode (although theoretically you can use C1 or C2 but I've had no success there) which means it fires anytime another flash fires unless its sensor is covered.

The other great thing is that the Vivs recycle slower than the Siggy so if I put the Sigma on ETTL, I'll be able to catch a few in between shots while the Vivs recycle. The additiaonl light when all three go will be awesome! Woohoo! Heck, I might even be able to bounce the two Vivs and fire the Sigma on a bracket and still have no shadowing. Time will tell.
