Went into the Adobe online store this morning to upgrade from LR 1 to LR 2.

Entered my Visa number and printed out a receipt. So far so good.

Then I tried to DL the upgrade - complete failure - I tried two different desk top machines (both high speed internet access).

Contacted a "technical service rep" that suggested I use a stand alone computer or one with Firefox. Both my machines use IE, and are on a local home network. He also suggested disabling my firewall (what a genius) - I'm not to keen on that.

Has anyone else had trouble with DL'ing Adobe products lately? It seem that they've gone to a new DL system called "Akamai".

Oddly enough, the old system wasn't broken as I have DL'd a number of Abobe products in the past, but can't now.

You are so fortunate - did you ever try to get online help from Adobe?

What a joke. They must administer an oral English test - if they fail, they get the job.

Glenn, I'm sorry to hear you say that you had trouble with Adobe's helpline. I had trouble with something in the past (I can't remember what now), but they were great. In fact they called me back when we got disconnected or they had to look something up. I was blown away by their customer service, but again, that was about 1 1/2 years ago. Maybe try calling again, or see if they'll refund you and buy a disc...I don't even know if they have put this on a disc yet - I'm over in Afghanistan, so I won't try to download it over the internet here seeing as we get worse speed than dial-up! and that's when it's working

I downloaded the trial version of LR last night, no problems. I use Firefox and am behind a hardware firewall.

What can I do with Lightroom that I can't do with Bridge and CS3?
The Adobe site doesn't give too much info.

You could try here http://www.softpedia.com …ors/Adobe-Lightroom.shtml (external link) as long as you have a licence key the trial is the same as full version (I know since I did trial then bought a boxed version).

Thanks for the tip/hint.

I tried softpedia, but discovered I had to learn about "bit torrents" and gave up on that.

Then your hint about the trial version gave me an idea that worked; DL'd the full trial version, and when installing there is a choice to purchase or use your serial number (which I got this morning when I paid for the upgrade).

Worked like a charm - on both computers.

Thanks Mark.
