No, as long as the uncompressed size is over 48MB and the compression is saved at level 11 or 12.

OK I got you,,,thnx!

I never realized when you open a jpg image up in PS that it uncompresses automatically...never really payed much attention to the file size while working on it.

I was lurking in the Shutterstock forums, and there's someone boasting about being right on par with a 10k gross earnings for the year, with somewhere around 5300 images in his portfolio. It's gaining all sorts of ooh's and ahh's from the other contributors. Pity they don't see how much it devalues their work.

This guy's $10,000 at SS's most profitable payout rate would pan out to 26,315 sales, likely less due to the $20 EL offerings and direct purchasing, so likely closer to 20-23k with some special download licensing.

My seven sales this year through Alamy were over $1k. If that trend continued, it would only take me 40 sales to equal this guy's 20k+ sales. Plus, considering how buyers don't want to use the same thing everyone else is using, my 40 are going to be a lot less noticeable than his 20k+. More and more happy with Alamy every day.

Oh btw, their most recent QC time for me was a matter of hours. Looks like they finally caught up on their back log =)

You might not know that all those not posting to bash him and his 5000 pictures don't do it either not to get banned or hurt his feelings..
His "work" is beyond crap

Great thread. Thank you OP for starting it and the rest of you to participate and sharing the info :)

I subscribed to Alamy 2 days ago and just passed QC...
Now, I have a simple questions regarding keywording:
Do you use different keywords for "Main keywords" and "Comprehensive keywords" or the same ones?
Is it appropriate to leave "Comprehensive keywords" blank?

You can leave whatever you want blank, but the levels of keywords have a different weighting in searches. Check this link (external link) to show you which are the important boxes to fill out. Most people are amazed that the first box "Caption" carries the least weight.

Alamy has a section on that under Contributor Information

http://www.alamy.com …-photography-captions.asp (external link)

In short, don't put the same keywords in each section. You can leave the comprehensive keywords blank if you want, but in general you should keyword your images as thoroughly and accurately as possible.

thanks Anke and Gary for the response.
I'm just wondering how many keywords are you using per image (let say a landscape)?

You can use as many as the box allows, I use as many as I can think of. Do searches of other similar images to see the words others use.

from the link you posted before: (If I'm understanding correctly this applies only to Main keywords) "To protect your intellectual property these (keywords) are not visible on the website to others."

I was just asking for approximate number of keywords in general. Do you think that using let say 20 keywords is enough or should I enter more than that?

Its hard to say, just enter however many you think is appropriate for someone to locate your image. What words first spring to mind when looking at it, perhaps ask your friends/family for some words to get a better variation.

Apparently, they don't like shallow DOF. I just got rejected for out of focus. ;)

I am going to have to go searching for photos that have a small aperture.

I asked about this on Alamy's forum and promptly got berated for not blindly trusting that their QC would know the difference. I'm still not convinced.

I agree, I've had them before, I even got OOF for a shot on a foggy day  You just have to keep trying and try and get a different QCer the next time.

If you use "blurred" as a search term on Alamy, you get nearly 16,000 images! This is one of mine,

http://www.alamy.com …ve=1&size=0xFF&ot=0&adv=0 (external link) (can't get it to display - think its because of the % in the link?)
I think that if it is "obvious" that it is OOF for "artistic" reasons you should be OK. Having looked through the search results though, there are some weird ones!!

They do check every image on an initial submission, but only spot check after that. If you feel their reason was questionable, you could rename and resubmit a photo mixed with with a bunch of new stuff. I haven't tried that yet, but intend to at some point.

Based on my experience I suspect, but have no proof, that they are prone to check every first image in a submittal, then at random after that. I rename my images in sequential order for Alamy specifically so I can more easily identify them, so I've started making sure each first image is plain and simple and easy to pass.
