I just pulled the trigger on a Gitzo GT3541XLS

PLEASE HELP ME FEEL BETTER - at 800.00 while excited I'm also kind of afraid, I won't tell me girlfriend or parents how much it costs I guess

Hmmm.... $800 tripod... If it's any consolation, it does come with a $40 rebate check.

Seriously, though, what was your justification for getting a tripod that's so ridiculously expensive? It's beyond me (and I thought I was nuts for paying $250 for a Gitzo monopod!).

Height, stability, g-lock, strength to weight ratio, systematic (a leveling plate/center column can be added or removed at will) If I decide to go back into birding it will support anything I throw at it on a wimberley head...its 59" with three out of the four legs extended - 78" high with all 4 (no center column included in that height)

Basically the last tripod I'll ever need you might say

PS I was going to pay that for a monopod a while back when I was thinking about picking up a 400 5.6

why do you need it? Or do you have some long heavy glass??

Congrats. Don't worry about spending so much. Why should you place such expensive gear on anything less. Do you put 10 dollar tires on a benz NO.

Damn right...Can't let that new 5DMKII fall into the river due to heavy current

That is a big $800 IF though.
Your gear list shows nothing that cannot be hand held.

Most of my word - 95% prolly, is landscape photography...most of the work in my gallery is at shutter speeds of around 1/6th etc...I also do a lot of time lapse photography with exposures reaching 2-5 minutes (we can't have movement on those hehe)

Not to mention bracketing my images for masking and blending in photoshop
Also the use of graduated ND filters etc

Plus like I said if I go back into birding no need to buy another tripod, why buy a smaller one now and then have to buy the big one later

Well for landscaping use I can see it especially if you shoot a lot in that area.

just DO IT. At least you know in your mind that you have the "most expensive" tripod to use with 24-70 lens.

You are in NJ, maybe you could see it Friday. They are usually pretty fast.
