just DO IT. At least you know in your mind that you have the "most expensive" tripod to use with 24-70 lens. :)

I think there are three others above mine so I guess I failed

What are the specs on yours hoff?

21.7" folded length, < 4lbs weight, max height 59.5" -- fits me fine as I'm 5'10"

If you're taller, for sure the xls is a better fit. It does look like all the prices went up quite a bit... My wife gave me mine for my birthday in Feb. so it hasn't been that long.

Well, now that you ordered it, be happy and enjoy it. By the way, you might want to consider adding a set of stainless steel spikes to go with the legs. Might as well add more protection when using the tripod on slippery grounds...

I think these are all the new generation at least with the rebate im at like 759 or w.e

Ur model is discontinued and the new version of it is 699 :)

however it only weighs 3.8 now

Im not that much taller 6' flat but you wouldn't believe how often you need a tripod to be taller...especially on hillsides/cliffs etc where you need 15 more inches out of one of the legs

mine will stand at 78 with no column at 4.3lbs

Haha I saw those. but before that ill prolly get some optech or lenscoat pads for the legs as the tripod+ballhead+camera won't be light :)

Whew...and here I am wanting to get a tripod under $100...
Well...Money is meant for spending! I suppose you don't need much justification if you have the money to spend. Enjoy it!
At least you have an $800 weapon to beat people up who hit on your girlfriend!

Well first obviously a ballhead (maybe a leveling base to go with it)

the 5DMK II (if I can sell my 40D - haha cause everyone else will be selling theirs)
small purchases like a 1.2 reverse GND filter
new polarizer either a lee 105mm or a singh-ray warming polarizer depends on what I can afford

:) :) :)

$800 for a tripod is very steep. Looking at your gear, I think think they are that heavy, so such a tripod maybe over kill.

Anyway, here is my philosophy. If you are going to use it very often, then expansive is OK as long as you can afford it. BUT if you don't get to use it often, then should get something cheaper.

I just pulled the trigger on a Gitzo GT3541XLS ;)

PLEASE HELP ME FEEL BETTER - at 800.00 while excited I'm also kind of afraid, I won't tell me girlfriend or parents how much it costs I guess:rolleyes:

Often isn't even the word haha...my girlfriend and I went to italy for 10 days and I brought my tripod to DINNER every time! the shore this year twice...both time for a week each, brought my tripod everywhere I went haha! I care not about anything except not missing an opportunity to take a shot after evening hours

especially when you shoot at F8-F11 ALL the time so even 4:30pm+ is too late to be handholding anything with a polarizer on it let alone a bare lens

That is a big $800 IF though.
Your gear list shows nothing that cannot be hand held.

Huh?

To the OP -

I'm with you. I'm not rich enough to buy the cheap stuff. The 3541 is an amazing tripod with an amazing light weight for excellent stability. I can see the difference in IQ even over my 1258 for a given lens (like the 2540).

Congrats, I just got my 3541LS and M20 delivered a few hours ago and I can't believe how rock solid and light this set up is. Never before could I ever imagine spending that much for support but that 500L keeps calling my name so I figured I'd try and future proof myself best I could.

Now if I could just figure out a way to start getting paid to do this to help offset the cost.

I was thinking weightwise but then he mentioned landscapes and low light scenes stopped down.

It's very difficult to get to critical sharpness handheld.
