went out today and tested with a single flash,iso at 400,and shooting so my subject clearly had the blue sky behind her. shot mid afternoon on purpose and this is what i came up with.
using to two exposure analogy
metered the sky and came up with f/13. metered the subject,who was in shade, and came up with f8.0. put on the flash and here were the results
f/9.0 sky was white and blown out. the sky didnt start turning blue until f/11. at f/13 subject had good color and sky was nice blue.
at f/14, i got a very good blue sky but subject still has good color. this is where i started playing with the shutter speeds.
as i moved from 250 shutter speed and slowed it to 50,,the sky started to loose color while the subjet stayed in good color and exposure.125 shutter speed resulted in a much lighter blue and when i got to 50-60 shutter speeds,,sky was all whiTe and subjet noticible lighter.
so for my taste,,f/200 looked the best. had a very nice blue sky and to compensate for any discrepency on my subject, i would adjust my flash output to get a setting i liked, which was at plu 1/3 for my subject sitting in the shade. so im thiking this is what she was talking about because at 200-250 i had perfect and detailed back grounds and as i dropped the shutter speeds,,so did the background color and detail. i would post some pics but my wife who just got done cleaning the house,would absolutly KILL ME. IM SURE YOU UNDERSTAND:p
