Hi, Just watched a DVD by Bobbie Lane on studio portraits (Very Good DVD), in the program she shows how to set up the main light for three different effects, but I am a bit confused:confused: and hope someone can set me straight.
When she sets up main light there is no softbox attached to it and she gets the desired light falling on the models face but!!! when she takes the photograph the softbox is in place, so do you do this before photographing or was this just for the DVD explaination.

Many Thanks,
Russell.

Sounds like she had the softbox removed for modeling purposes, maybe. This wouldn't give you an accurate representation of the type of light you'd end up (hard vs soft) but would at least tell you where the light and shadows would fall (even if some of them were going to be softened after the modifier was attached).
