What I do is carefully look at the filter to body interface and locate the point of cross threading. It is subtle but noticeable. The space between the filter will be the same distance from the body except at one point where it will be a little smaller. At this point put in the edge of the blade and gently give it a twist. It doesn’t take much pressure and usually you hear a satisfying snap as the filter pops back into place. It then unscrews very easily. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It had chewed up the end of the lens.
