The most important thing when dealing with a mildly stuck filter is not to pinch it firmly with your thumb and forefinger as that will force the rim to deform into a slightly elliptical shape, enough to lock it even faster.

I always remove filters by placing my fingers equally spaced around the rim or (if stubborn) by placing my cupped palm over it to grab the serrations evenly all-around.

I have tried the rubber glove method, rubber bands, filter wrench, vice grips, just about everything and found that the simplest way is with a pocket knife. What I do is carefully look at the filter to body interface and locate the point of cross threading. It is subtle but noticeable. The space between the filter will be the same distance from the body except at one point where it will be a little smaller. At this point put in the edge of the blade and gently give it a twist. It doesn’t take much pressure and usually you hear a satisfying snap as the filter pops back into place. It then unscrews very easily.

holy crap. I have tried everything and about 20 minutes since i was afraid to ruin it more. The pocket knife worked!I went around and mm by mm just twisted the blade (not the knife but the other flat piece and it worked. Thanks Gjl711!

Glad it worked. It hasn't failed me yet.

Or use a rock...

Or a sword might work.

There was an L lens on eBay a while ago that looked as if someone had used pipe grips on, presumably to remove a stuck filter. It had chewed up the end of the lens.

That's like disc-cutting the door off a Ferrari when the keys have been locked inside!

when i had a pesky cpl stuck on my wifes lens i used 2 rubber sandals...worked flawlessly when the gloves and rubber band thing ddint work. i sorta sandwiched the cpl between the 2 sandals and twisted.
