I was just told by an employee at Calumet in the Oakbrook IL store, to mark my calendar for Oct 4. On that day, a Canon Rep will be there displaying and letting people view the products announced at Photokina, hands on.

Too bad I have a shoot that day >_<

Thanks for sharing this. If the new 5D is there I'll be there too.

So who else is going to be there this weekend? I'm planning on making it out there.

And it will be at both Calumet stores in Chicago and Oakbrook from 10am - 4pm

I just visited a Photo store in London on Thursday and had my hands on the 5D mk2. My collegue even managed to insert his own compact flash card in the camera and fire off some test shots and record HD video in the store.
This camera is ground breaking.

I was at the Calumet in Oak Brook today and there was no 5D Mark II :( The Canon rep said they had agreed with Calumet there wouldn't be one there at any of the stores. He did say a release date around Thanksgiving though.

Though I didn't leave disappointed because I got to handle a 1Ds Mark III with a 200mm f/2 IS, 400mm f/4 IS DO, 14mm f/2.8L, and a 50mm f/1.2L :D

The 50D was there too with the new 18-200. Very impressive camera, and the 18-200 is pretty nifty too!

Did the rep say why?

I was at a Calumet/Canon day yesterday and the only "Canon cutting edge technology from Photokina," were P&Ss. I spent about 5 minutes.

I went to my local Calumet in SD and he mentioned that the 5D II was not available for hands on because that particular camera is not shipping yet. He mentioned that 2 months till the shipping date.

Theres a big photo expo here in calgary right now, I got to handle both cameras yesterday. All I can say is wow. I'm more impressed with the 5d mk II then ever, and will definitely pick up 2 of these beauties. The 50D felt really good as well, and I may grab one for the sports shooting If I pick up the contract for it.

It's not shipping anywhere else in the world either, but apparently Canon doesn't have a problem letting people in Canada, Japan, England, etc., handle it at shows.

but u can tell you that the viewfinder feels better then the 5d classic... never tought i would see a difference but it seemed whiter then im used to with my 5d classic

Deja-vu.. I had a shoot on the 4th and also had a chance to see the 5D II.

However I did see it. At the 2008 Digital Photo Expo. And they let me use my CF card in it. The videos are huge.

I went to a Canon Demo Day at a large camera store in Stevenage UK (near London) on the 1st of October.

The 5D mk II was fully usable and I was able to spend quite a bit of time with it. For some daft reason there was only a 1gb card in it and the rep certainly wouldn't let me put my own in it. The one thing that struck me was there wasn't many people there to check it out - although it was a week day so maybe people were going after work. I was there at 10.30am and it was really quiet.

The rep said it would start shipping last week of November - so we're hearing pretty much the same as you in the US and Canada. I think supplies will be limited (probably worse than the 50D) so I've got two pre-orders in already.

Still struggling with the idea that I'll be getting rid of my Mk I though. I'll miss it that's for sure.
