I'm quite new to photography, and slowly learning and experimenting. I took this with my SLR a couple weeks ago, two days after I got it, and I liked the way it turned out. I also played around editing it, something I'm really not comfortable with but I suppose comes with practice. Just was wondering what others thought. The subject is my baby, my female cockatiel Charlie.

With all do respect, where is the birds face? It appears he's looking the other way... If he were turned around facing the camera, it would be great...

Like already mentioned, seeing the face would be nice. Also the bird is facing the left edge of the image. It makes a better picture when the subject is looking into the frame. So in this case you would have had the bird closer to the right edge. The other thing I would suggest is to have shot this with your camera in the vertical position. Birds are taller than wide so turn you camera up on its side and capture more of the subject. This will help eliminate cutting off the top feathers. Just keep shooting and before long these things become natural when you look thru the viewfinder. You did a nice job getting a nice clean background so it does not compete with the subject.

I had some face shots, but I liked this one because I thought the angle was unique. I think it might have been better if the head was turned a little more so the beak was more visible, that would provide a better sense of depth. Thanks for the comments!
