I've seen this book get favorable reviews at POTN before, so I finally picked it up. I'm only on chapter 2 right now, but it has been a fantastic read so far.

The book first makes you change from "taking pictures of things" to "taking pictures of the light that is reflected by things".

This is a big concept for me - I always thought that light was just an ingredient. The truth is - light is not an ingredient, it's the whole enchilada!

I'll post more in this thread as I make it through the book. Chapter 1/2 have been worth my price of admission already though.

Edit: Mods - apologize, but I think this thread should have been posted in the "Talk about.." forum as this is an equipment forum.

No, it's fine where it is.

And I agree, that's a great book to have in the library and a really worthwhile reading (it's not a novel, though). :)

couldnt agree more with you,
took me months to realise that especially portrait photography is 99% dependant on light and 1% on focus/DOF/colour ect

Maybe I missed something, but what is the name of the book?

This is a later edition that what I have but, as SYS said, it's a great book (I noticed this edition has another author listed):

It's a great book but don't expect to read it through and have everything make sense right away. It's very comprehensive and there is a lot of theory, so don't mistake it for a quick tutorial or an instructional lighting book or cookbook. It is none of those things.
