i had a canon xt and bought a sigma ef 530 dg super flash. and had no issues. i just purchased a canon 40d and when i hook the flash up it fires on the first shot. but when it recharges the flash does not fire on subsequent shots. i tried all the different modes and still have the same problem. i checked the camera settings and tried them several different ways with no result. these tests were done useing a zoom lens. i also tried M, av, and auto mode with no luck. what am i missing here. is there a button on the camera i need to hit? please help.

what mode are you in on the flash itself? Must use manual on the flash itself.

i had the same thing happen, only to realize that the cord to my flash connecting to the camera was the problem. With my 30d it didn't happen, but for some reason, the cord doesn't fit my 40d very well, so I have to hold the cord in.

Why does the flash have to be in manual mode for it to work with the 40D?

I've had issues using this flash unit also. Mine would only fire every other time on both my XTI and 40D. Sent it in for repair.

Does it still work correctly on your XT? Might be your 40D.

Very few people use the flash on manual AFAIK, many use the camera on manual with the flash on ETTL.

Sounds like from what people are saying the 530 doesn't play nicely with the 40D.
