C.Fn III-2 on Mark III

I need some tips on this function. I am shooting High School football and I am wondering what the best way to set this CF is. I have it set right now at the fastest setting.

How has that been working for you? If it has been working fine then I wouldn't change anything. What this setting does is tell the camera to change or hold what it has been focusing on when something new comes in the field of view. If you are following a player running down the field and somebody comes up to him to tackle him a normal or slow setting will probably keep the shot focused on the player you've been following. The faster setting may cause the camera to switch to the tackler who has now entered the field of view. Sometimes this is what you would prefer, especially if he makes the tackle you would want that shot.

wasn't real happy with the shots I got last night so I thought it may be something to do with the CF settings.
I understand what they do, just wasn't sure what the best setting may be for this type of shooting

just out of focus. Didn't seem like the focusing was on target

I have mine set to the second slowest. In all honesty, I find that unless I am getting any kind of "obstruction" between me and the subject, this setting really doesn't have such a huge impact...

There is no "best" way to set this CF. It is one of the many settings on a Mark III that allows you to customise the camera to suit your way of shooting. What I have it set to has no bearing on how you should have it set because I probably don't shoot the same way you do, even if we were shooting the same subject. Experiment with it and find out which setting works best for you.
