Kinda boring, sorry mate. Light isn't all that dynamic, and subject is quite centered in the frame. The fact that he's about to get barrelled isn't clear because you're shooting from such a high angle. This would be great shot from sea level with an horizon visable to utilite that awesome spray as much as possible. Sorry to be harsh:D Lovely colous, good timing and good focus though.
The guy looks a bit forward on his board? Oh the days of backfoot surfing . . . haha

Anyone know anything anywhere anymore?

Ya,
I totally agree,
the angle and comp sucks,
I was pretty injured from reef rash the day before and could not hike well down the cliff... I maybe should of sunk deeper into the bushes or somethin... hmm,

I like your suggestions though, any more, i want to shoot waves better!

Thanks

make sure you get the right light ;)

backlit works well for certain things,
in this case you cant avoid it at all..

just takes away from the subject... in this case :)

Backlit surfing photos look amazing with an uber-low angle sun or if the sun would be in the frame but the wave is blocking it. Having the sun reflect off the face of the wave is also excellent. For any aussies here, whenever I walk past the new Tracks I just have to stop and admire that damn fine cover photo. One of the best I've ever seen.
Your choice of focal lengths for this photo was good. Just enough to show the form of the wave, and nothing else. Very nice. But taking a photo straight at a wave is kinda just that, all you're showing is a wave that has no depth or angles. If you get to sea level and shoot along the beach slightly it will improve your shots a lot, as you're not only showing the wave then but how it works as well.

I totally like the photo. A different aspect or view is what makes a good pic stand out as an individual...

I like it too. It's not the average Indo photo you see shot from a boat. I honestly get sick of looking at Indo photos because they all look the same...huge barrels shot from the channel.

Damn straight, that is one nice lookin cover shot!

And I dont mind the angle so much, if more of the wall was visible and the sun was behind you or more to your right, then it would have made it a heap nicer. Not bad considering, and I hope the reef rash got better not worse the next day ???
