i recently bought an 85 1.8 and i like taking pics of my dogs. this is one indoor. i looks a bit noisy cuz i had my ISO at 1600. it looked sharper in DPP too. what do you think? what could i do to improve this in PP?

thanks!

Dan, I'm new myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt. My take is the DOF is great, the toy and his one closest eye and nose is all in focus. If it is a crop I would give him a little more room on the right to look into. It a great shot and the dog is the sweetest looking little guy, great job. There will people with more experience then me coming by soon I'm sure.

It's lovely.

Critisisms: it would have been nice to get all of the toy in the frame. The image would benefit from some minor adjustments to contrast and noise reduction, but otherwise I like it.

thanks for the comments. i've tried noise reduction on it, but it only seemed to make it worse. maybe i wasnt doing something right. i'm not that good at PP yet. unfortunately, it is not a crop so i dont have any more composition options.

Aside from the composition thats already been commented on, and the noise issue, all I think it needs is a little pop and its done. Its a great shot, nicely done. :D

I just used the noise reduction in Photoshop but very conservatively otherwise it looks far too soft. Also reducing the image size kind of hid some of the noise that was still visible.

My only comment here isn't really in regards to pp (I think conkeroo summed that up pretty well) as much as I would have liked to see the pup looking at the camera...and maybe a little more expression on his face. Otherwise, it's a good composition, good color and lighting, etc...just kind of a bland pose.

Peace,
Jim
