Ever Fedex your gear?

Ive been thinking of getting a Pelican case for a while now. Im wondering if anyone ever uses Fedex to ship their gear instead to taking it on a plane. I would think with a Pelican it would be secure and using Fedex it would be insured. Anyone with any experience here?

I don't know. I've been told that people check their Pelicans in and have no probs. That makes me nervous, but my pro friend says he does it all the time and international.

I don't think I'll ever see the day where my camera and I board a plane from different doors...

I work with guys who routinely ship in excess of $100,000 worth of video gear every week (tripod, filters, matte boxes, monitors, etc) and they rarely have any issues (other than the expense...which they bill back to the client.)

They do not let their primary camera out of their sight, however...it goes on the plane in a Porta Brace bag.

I know of a few destination wedding photographers that store a spare kit at their office in a Pelican case with a FedEx sticker (attached to an account number) - so that if their gear gets stolen, the office manager can fill out the destination address and next-day/two-day ship it to the photographer.
