Hey 'old guy'. . . . . . Just when I think you can't do much better you go and throw these up! clarity is just unreal.

Would love to have a go at some surf shots but we don't get much in the way of surf on' South end on sea - mud front'

has to be #1 out of these two

.DAVID.

Butch,
This has turned into the "airbutchie" thread ! Good on 'ya buddy.....you're doing some amazing work. Makes me realize I really need to get this lens out and shoot some with it. Not too much surfing going on here in the frozen midwest at the moment....have to find something else.

Keep 'em coming butch....love to see what you and all the others are getting done with this great piece of glass.

regards, george w

Is anyone using their 300/2.8 with a 1D4 or 5D3?
I've got a few pics with the 1D4, and when viewing at 100%, most don't look so great.
Is it perhaps i'm expecting too much from an older lens with the newer bodies?
On my 1D3 it looks great. Perhaps it is the extra resolution that gives it that 'muddled' look at 100% crop.

Have you tried microadjusting it for your body ? If it's still beyond tolerances, maybe Canon can calibrate it ? I know they don't repair this lens anymore, but maybe they can just calibrate it.

You should first try with Liveview mode to get a perfect focus ... and if pictures looks good, you will just have to set a good Micro Asjustment (+10 with my 1DX) it's more than with my 5DMKII and 1DMKIII

My last samples are with 1Dx (Dogs and Cathedral) you can click and get a 1920 *1280 size to see how sharp this lens can be.
