Perhaps... but I have the power to correct it on my end transparently, therefore their mistake doesn't ever hinder my viewing experience, whether they uploaded AdobeRGB intentionally or not... I obviously can't control how they upload. THAT'S why its not pointless, to me at least.

With a color-manged browser I could care less what color-space they used... they should all appear roughly the same for me.

Agree with you on that, but don't forget that a non color managed application will display *any* image wrong, since your monitor profile is not sRGB... Can be quite a difference on a laptop for instance :p
That's the main reason I browse color managed...

known to take a huge performance hit that's why it's not enabled by default.

No difference in speed enabled or disabled. I think I'm ready to ditch Firefox for another browser, color managed or no.

There was a fix for the memory leak in FF 3.0 that had to do with minimizing to recover memory. I've monitored memory use and it does climb and stay up. If you minimize it recovers much of the memory.

I've also dumped mouse gestures until they get that plug-in fixed as it appeared to be slowing down everything.

The first thing I did when I saw how slow the beta was, was disable all the add-ons. Saw no difference in speed. Now using v3.01 and no extensions or add-ons. Verrrry slowwww. Especially pages with lots of media content. POTN is reasonably quick.

I did this on my browser, and I really liked the change. My system is relatively new, so maybe that helps with the speed issue.

My home page consists of 7 tabs with heavy media content and FF 3.0 seems fine. I did find an old page regarding Firefox performance and believe I've implemented most of the suggestions. http://www.mepis.org/node/5420 (external link)

I am running an Acer standard computer with AMD 64 x2 3800 (the first one?), 3 gig of memory, and plenty of HD space. My connection is Comcast and seems quite fast.

I was using AVG's Link Scanner for a while and disabled it because of performance. I have recently re-enabled it with no issues.

Dave, thanks for that link. I've implemented the changes and it "seems' to have made a difference. Interestingly, I can't find the first field, "browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs = true" anywhere in my copy.

Glad to hear that. I didn't find that first one either. That page was very old...

One other thing I use is www.pcpitstop.com (external link) for free analysis of the system. They do a pretty good job and I've not had any issues with junk from them. I've been signed up for years. They have caveats about Firefox - or did the last time I was there - and so I use IE to run the tests. In fact that's the only tab configured on IE for me.

Bodog - You need to read further down the forum on the linked page. The final post has this comment :-

Yeah, apparently they've switched that config value to:
browser.link.open_newwindow
Now, set it to 1.

In other words the "browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs = true" has become "browser.link.open_newwindow" in Firefox 3 and should be set to a value of 1.

Dave - many thanks for this link. I had already discovered the colour management setting but had been having some problems with FF3 in that it would slow down considerably after visiting sites with many photos or other media. I have implemented the settings given on the page you linked to and the speed improvement is quite noticeable and no slowdown, yet, even using the sites where I had problems before.

Great! I just hope you noticed the dates on those entries - the last one is over a year old. They still do seem to work well though.

This was my fourth time installing v.3. For whatever reason it is still dog slow on some peoples' computer, including mine. Frankly by v.2 Firefox was turning "bloatware" anyway. I've uninstalled it for the last time and moved on. Google's "Chrome" is looking pretty good right now. Barebones, but it does what I need done.

I do see a performance hit with my PC at work (1.6Ghz old Centrino). You'll see more of that if you have a graphics intensive page. Not as much with my PC @ home (X2 4200) but it's noticeable.
