Hi All

Can you kind people please advise.

I have a 24-105l fitted to my 1D mk3

And I seem to get OOF pics 90% of the time.
I am using the centre AF spot, lock focus on eye, move cam for comp then shoot.

Samples here

Is it me or the cam or the lens?

PS the Cam was set to One-Shot AF and I was assuming DOF at f8 would take care of the slight movment in subject ie 5cm ish

Have you looked into using the microadjustment feature? At f8, I would expect a bit more clarity on the first shot (2nd shot looks pretty good, but focus is near the feet and not the face), but I would use this feature of the MKIII to see if you can tweak that lens to your body. This way you can see how much of an adjustment from 0 gives you that crispness.

Thats why.

Read this. (external link) That is one reason why canon give us more than one focus point.

Honestly, they don't look "OOF" at all.
Are they tack sharp? Not the eyes. However you said you focused then recomposed so that could very well be the reason.

Hi and thanks for the replys.
I can not do the micro adjust as it would fix the 1d but the 5 D lacks this feature :-(

However the posted Focus Errors page seems to make sense I will try this and report back.......

Kind regards

Ben
