Great series. Love the snail, great angle, lighting and bokeh. Welcome to the world of macro photography; it is an amazing world.

The spider really does it for me :D

It would have been awesome if you'd gotten a frontal shot - but I still really like it.

Welcome! And those are your first few macro shots? Well done! You have a great eye.
Love the snail shot. Looks great with the bokeh, but if you closed down the aperture just a little more you may have got some more of the eye stems in detail.

Excellent shots - you have done very well indeed for your first few.

Love that snail shot. The leaf shot is fabulous too, you obviously have a good eye for a different angle.

Wow, Thank you guys. I love macro. The one thing that keeps getting me a little and the one I don't know how to fight is that I struggle to find enough light out there to be able to use smaller apertures (I'd like to use around f8 most of the time). There's just not enough light. Will I need to get an external flash unit? (I'm considering the 430EX anyway, would that be good?).

But again, thank you very much guys for kind words, they mean a lot!

I cant see from your profile where you are located (which country?) but from looking at the exif of your photos I can see you took these in January of this year - you must have some newer shots, so lets see them too. :D

Yes, an external flash is the ideal thing to use when shooting macro, then you would go Manual, set shutter speed to 200, ISO of either 100 or 200 and anything from F8 to F16 - although I think F11 is probably the most commonly used aperture when using an external flash and in manual mode.

Tv mode, with the shutter speed set at 200, is another option until you get your flash, but you are then open to the camera setting the aperture, but in good light its not a problem.

I would imagine the 430 EX would be perfectly ok and a lot of people do use that one I believe - I have the 580EX which is fine for me.

Got any newer shots?

Oh, sorry Linda, those shots are actually about a week old, my camera date must be set incorrectly... Let me just check that.

Funny enough, my camera date says 2nd September 2008... how come my exif date is off?
