I have the Canon LA-DC58D and the LH-DC30 for my G6, both of these adapters along with the original lens ring on the camera have a slight amount of play in them. Is this normal? Obviously the play on the hood isn't an issue, but on the Adapter fitted with a Polarized filter, is this a bad thing? will it cause distortion of the photo's? The play is minimal, probably 1mm or slightly less (.75mm) at the end of the adapter where the filter will be attached. Is this play found on other cameras or the lensmate adapter? Do SLR's lens attach with a slight amout of play or are they on solid?

would it be a bad thing to place a thin felt (electro static felt) ring between the body and the adapter to tighten the fit, or possibly a small bead of hot glue?

For thos interested in the lens hood from Canon, I'll add that the the LH-DC30 's aluminum adapter extends into the hood and you can still attach the stock lens cap over it, which is great to keep out the dust. I never saw this mentioned anywhere and it's a plus in making the decision. and the hood can be removed with a 1/4 turn inverted, and put back on for saving space in your bag, with the hood inverted it only sticks out 1/2 inch beyond the grip. The Quality is tops. www.ritzcamera.com (external link) has it for $24.00 1/2 what everyone else is charging.

I have a 52mm Lensmate adaptor on my G6 on which I attach filters (most of the time a polarizer) and Raynox lenses. There is no play in my setup.

I was able to eliminate the play in the adapter by taking a little epoxy and with my finger applying a thin film over the three lips of the adapter, not even the thickness of a sheet of paper, just enough to make the surface appear glossy and that tightened it up perfectly. My guess is they allowed for a certain thickness of black paint from the inside of the adapter tube to get on the lips making it snug. on my adapter the paint faded out on the lips. By just adding this super thin layer of epoxy and letting dry, my lens adapter goes on/off with ease yet it's as tight as a screw on.

If your' experiencing similar issues, make sure you use an epoxy like substance or a gorilla glue... something that will bond with the surface and dry's rock hard, that way it will stand up to the wear, and if you put a little too much on you can take some 800grit sand paper and bring it down to the perfect level.

I'll warn again that the layer is literally nothing, just enough to gloss over and I even wiped over it a few times with a dry finger to take off most of it. your shooting for the thickness of a light spray paint dusting.
