Hey all, I am looking for a reliable quality printing lab in Canada. I live in Ontario and can't seem to find the right solution, other then going to the US.
Those that I do find, well, I guess I am looking for other peoples experience with print labs-- who is good, who is not so good.
I need a lab that can properly print quality photos in various sizes, quantities on choice of papers/mediums for my customers... someone that knows how to print black and white is going to be key.
I post process most things myself, so that service would not be so necessary, other then the tweaks to print-- yet.

Send a PM to PictureCrazy, he's somewhere in Canada and might be able to help.

I've been using Technicare and very happy with the results. I don't know if they are in Ontario but you could check their website. Even at that you can still courier the jobs, which is what I do. They use the ROES system for uploading which is a charm to use. If I upload in the evening most times it is in the hands of the courier the next afternoon, even on fairly large jobs.

I have used the Pro Lab at Camera Canada and was also happy with them it was just too far for those occasions where I want to visit the lab in person. When I lived in Montreal I used Provisia (external link) after going through several different labs. Not only was their quality exceptional so was their customer service.

I've been contacted by several labs that happen to be in Ontario to try their services. If I google color labs for Toronto (assuming that a high percentage of them will be there) you get no shortage of choices.

I have always gone through a process of sending the same file to several different labs when I am on the hunt for a new one. I will sometimes choose from that go round but most often I will send some more to a few of short listed companies and I always include the one image that I sent initially to see if they are consistent.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

The lab I use is 500km from me, distance isn't important and couriers are cheap.

I'm sure there are decent labs locally to most people. Most of the good print labs have been printing for decades long. Like Sheldon, I personally use http://www.technicare.com/ (external link) which is a 2 minute drive away from me... :)

They aren't out in ontario, but they serve people all over the place. You just use their Java-based remote order entry system to upload your files and they'll ship it out to you after it's done. I think it's 11 bucks per shipment. They carry MANY regular and large format sizes, with many mounting options (foamcore, gatorboard, masonite etc...), rolled, stretched, or gallery wrap canvases, some album options and a bunch of other stuff.

BUT, you have to be a working pro to use them, and prove that you are running a legit photo business.

If not, then sorry, I can't help you... :(

I will likely adapt that practise!
