Star Trails with G6

Hi,

I was just wondering if any G users have had any success with shooting star trails,
with a powershot.

I realise the lack of tv 15sec Tv and no bulb mode limits this kind of photo shot,
but was wondering if anybody had been able to achieve the effect in another manner. eg... use of image stacker and interval shooting, or perhaps other methods.

Is it possible?????

Also im not having very much luck with capturing the moon at night. I always get flaring of the moon. Cant seem to capture it as a single white ball. any suggestions.

If you could post a pic that might help, one mistake people make is they underestimate how bright the camera reads the moon - bearing in mind your camera sees it basically as a light on a black background so will not auto expose correct. Exposure needs to be set manually for best results.

Yeah, i kind figured that, i tried it last night on an internal downlight and sure enough manual i was able to take a photo with the bulb detail showing.

Thanks Biko for the reminder that manual isnt just one of those do daaa things you talk about but never use.

Alternatively, can someone post any experience with star trails with any of the G range cameras im interested to know if lack of bulb or shutter speed are limiting factors for star trails.....

For example can star trails be captured effectively with image stacker or several 8 - 15 sec shots???
