New Twain Drivers

According to a message on the DPReview site (http://www.dpreview.com/ (external link)) Canon has just released a new range of Twain drivers, as well as a new WIA driver. specifically for Windows ME.
I have downloaded the drivers for my particular computer configuration, as well as the README files for the drivers in question, but these notes left me none the wiser.
As things stand I cannot say that I have any real problems with existing drivers, but on the other hand the new drivers may speed things up (or slow things down)!
Currently I am weary about installing them, hence this message.
Any comments?

The new drivers came on CD with my S110. I had to install them as the 3.6.1 version didn't recognize it (the S110.)

The G1 still works, so they are at least harmless. Someone at dpreview claims they are faster, but I really don't know.

After hesitating a bit longer I decided to uninstall the older version of the Twain driver and replace it with the latest one. As I am also using Windows ME, I also decided to install the new WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) driver. (Full instruction on both un-installing and installing the new drivers are part and parcel of the Zip files.)

Result? None that I can see! Perhaps these new drivers were necessary to cover the new models of Canon digital cameras? At least the new drivers seem to work at least as well as the previous ones.

Moral? If you are happy with your existing drivers leave well alone.

folx,

the last two releases just added recognition of two new camera models, as stated in the README.
